Joost after spending more than a year has finally come out with its much waited web based video service. The idea of moving from software based P2P network to the browser based must have come from the growing trend of bringing the desktop to the browser and it isn’t bad at all.

The site launched by Joost is Flash based and will feature movies, clips and all that one finds on regular video sites. The service moves away from its traditional desktop based client for video sharing to being web based owing to the fact that users presently don’t like the idea of having to open multiple programs to do a task.

Apart from that, going  web based gives them a chance to capitalize more on the heavily ad filled site. Plus it gives users an advantage that they don’t have to wait for the video to be downloaded, only to find it’s not worth the wait. Watching videos within a browser saves time, plus you can view the video on the same browser, without the need to open extra programs/windows.

The challenge however comes with facing the already set giants in the business. Apart from that it also offers users the ‘ah so important social aspect’ that lets you know what your friends are watching. The prime focus should be at giving out the best to its audience and looking out for ways that help it to reach out more people (something that appears to be a daunting task).
