Apple has announced that they have now sold 100 million iPods, making it the fastest selling music player in history. In the 5 and a half years of iPod´s short history Apple introduced 10 iPod models, spanning over five generations, two generations of iPod mini, iPod mini and iPod schuffle.
iTunes, the world´s largest catalog of songs sporting more than five million songs, 350 television shows and over 400 movies has its fair share of the home run with 2.5 billion songs, 50 million TV shows and over 1.3 million movies sold to date. This feat also crowns iTunes with the world´s most popular online media store.
The iPod and iTunes Empire also spans 4,000 accessories ranging from fashionable cases to speaker systems, and more than 70% of 2007-model US automobiles hitting the road with iPod connectivity.
It would be a matter of time now, when Merriam-Webster will include iPod in its dictionary as a synonym for portable music device, just like Google was included as a verb.
