With music applications over various social networks including Facebook, hi5 and Orkut is putting itself into the same boots like many companies by launching its own platform for developers. The current step would allow developers outside iLike to step in and have access to their collection and have the songs playing in on other applications as well.

This would help other developers to bring in more creativity by adding more features to the already hit application.

The current setup lets you create custom playlists within a social network as well as interface across other websites that are tailored to use it. It also lets users edit the appearance of the playlist as well enabling one to customize and edit tracks within a playlist. Given various other services like Imeem; which have already enabled its users to create customized widgets using Flash, iLike makes the whole thing much easier by letting users to easily put up widgets using the much simpler HTML and JavaScript.

With close relations with the music industry, CEO Ali Partovi is of the opinion that with the growing trend shifting away from the traditional revenue generation and promotion towards the modern ones, where artists eye a larger number of promoters for their long tours.

There are reports of its imperfection in relation to missing albums and artists. But isn’t that obvious given the amount of access that each user has is limited to iLike’s library. The songs are available to listen in partnership with Rhapsody, giving users a chance to listen to 25 songs before they have to signup for a Rhapsody account. The consequences for not doing so aren’t sever save for the fact that you’ll only be able to hear only 30 seconds of them.

All that iLike has to offer s for music fans that too set to a category of those who are die hard and won’t miss a chance at getting even a second to hear a beat. Otherwise it doesn’t have much to offer in my personal opinion, just plain hype to get things going and stir the calm that prevails.
