IAC (InterActiveCorp) has turned out to be a more online specific company since its split-up into five different units. With this strategy, they are now concentrating more on startups. Taking further the vision, the IAC Chairman and CEO Barry Diller is now launching ZwinkyCuties which is a virtual world for kids. The launch is expected on September 16th.
ZwinkyCuties is a sequel of Zwinky which is thought to be directly targeting the Club Penguin of Disney. The later is aimed at the smaller age group of girls i.e. 6-12 years old. As the service is very attractive for young girls, a lot of kids who don’t meet the age criteria, try to join in but they are turned away.
The Club Penguin was acquired by Disney last year. According to Disney’s CEO, Bob Iger, it is one of the Disney’s more successful digital businesses. Like Club Penguin , ZwinkyCuties will also be a subscription based service and the users will have to pay an amount of $5.95 per month. The current registered user base of Zwinky is around 16 million users.
