Facebook has gained a lot of popularity among people from different walks of life. Now the social network is getting popularity among the ruling class as well, though in a bit different manner. Guyanese president is worried about his profile on Facebook which is not the real one, and he has asked the police to find out the culprit involved.
In 2008, a Moroccan was sent to jail because he impersonated as the member of the royal family on the Facebook. The social network has also removed two fake profiles of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the son of the assassinated former prime minister of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto.
The trend of fake profiles on different social networks is not an unusual thing. I have seen a number of fake profiles since I started using social networks. The point is that every fake profile should be given equal priority. The public figures should not be given a high priority because for a social network they are just a user for them. There is usually a method to point out a fake profile on a social network and it should be followed by everyone irrespective of their designations.
