Grou.ps, a social groupware provider, yesterday announced that it has concluded the first round of funding. The company with its comprehensive online tools, currently has over 150,000 members worldwide and counting. The Turkish founder of the company, Emre Sokullu, also founded SimpleKDE which is a lightweight windows manager, based on KDE for UNIX systems.
The site which was launched in April, contained a variety of options like Wiki, chat, blog aggregation, etc. Since its beta release, it has added a module of files and videos. They’ve also made the site available in some other languages which include French, Greek, Swedish and Turkish (though Greek and Swedish are supported in groups only). Third party services are also integrated in it eg. Youtube videos, Google Maps, Facebook applications, etc.
Grou.ps has competitors like Ning, which offers similar services but it has comparatively a very large user base and has so far raised $104 Million in four rounds of funding, so its a long way to go for Grou.ps.
