Creating energy is not just about getting it through solar panels – this new idea brought forward by IST Energy changes prospective with its container-size contraption. The invention known as the Green Energy Machine (GEM) turns a building’s trash into energy: electricity and heat.
If put into use this would reduce trash disposal costs by far and add to providing free energy. The process is such that the machine uses gasification (less combustion) and does not burn the trash. A GEM unit will cost $850,000 (upfront), and will see backback results in three to four years; saving a building from paying about $200,000 an year for trash disposal. President and chief executive of IST, Stu Haber states:
Everybody loves the fact that they’re helping the environment, but because we’re talking to businesspeople, I have to assume that they’re interested because of the very quick payback.
