Google recently added a cool feature to their search engine to provide a faster and convenient searching experience for its mobile users. Many of us feel the need or have to grasp some information when we’re out and about, away from our computers. For example, if you want to confirm an address, you can log-in on the Internet from Windows Mobile phone, and try Search with My Location.
Using Gears Geolocation API, Searching with My Location lets you approximate your actual location using the Cell ID technology, as used by Google maps for mobile. The previous method being that the user performed a local search from a phone’s browser, the results were customized to the last location you had entered. Anyway, now (through My Location) Google will provide local business listings near your current location, if for e.g. you’re searching for sushi.
Similarly, type weather and you have the desired area’s forecast. Also, Google has developed Search with My Location (keeping your privacy in mind) as such that it does not associate your location with any personally identifiable information. Your location is not sent without your consent (rather opting in), and thereby you can always opt-out of it through Gears Settings, found under the Tools menu.
Some mobile devices do not yet support My Location, so you can check out the ones listed here, as Google is initially launching the feature on those. Search with My Location will initially be available in the US and UK.
Check out the My Location feature by visiting Google from your phone. Click on the My Location link provided under the search box, and enjoy the new feature! The video below will further provide a reason for you to use Search with My Location:
