The search engine giant, Google, which launched its ‘Google Mobile App’ for the new iPhone and iPod Touch more than a week ago, has updated the app. After the launch of Apple’s 3G iPhone and App Store last week, ‘Google Mobile App’ became available in the U.S. App Store.
According to Google mobile team’s software engineer, Steve Kanefsky, their top priority is to improve the speed of Google applications and user experience. He says:
At Google, improving the speed of our applications and user experience is a top priority. The new Google.com for the iPhone browser now loads twice as fast as before — and not just over 3G or Wi-Fi but also EDGE. We’ve optimized the page for fast searching, while still providing easy access to other Google applications including Gmail, Calendar, Reader, and many others under the More tab. We also improved the user interface so that there’s more room on the page for search results. Take a look at the screen shot below to see how we’ve eliminated wasted space.
Furthermore when you click on the search result, the targeted web site now opens up in the same browser window where the search was conducted. That means that by pressing the back button of your browser, you can straight away go back to your search result or the homepage of Google.
Moreover he says:
Finally, you can now access any of the application tabs directly by adding them to your iPhone Home Screen. We’ve created cool new icons for all the applications. Simply go to www.google.com in your browser, tap on any of the application tabs, click the "+" button, and select "Add to Home Screen." The icons will appear on your iPhone Home Screen allowing you to go directly to the application with a tap of your finger. Collect the whole set!
This new version of ‘Google.com’ is compatible with the new 3G iPhone along with the original iPhone and iPod. If you’re using Google Apps, you can access the new version by logging on to www.google.com/m/a/your-domain.com. ‘your-domain.com’ in the link is altered with the actual domain name.
Since the launch of 3G iPhone at WWDC, it has gained a lot of popularity and with applications such as Google Mobile Apps, it is getting more popular. With the speed of the browser twice as fast as earlier, it is certainly gona make some difference. Lets see how things roll out in the coming days with this update.
