Looks like China has got things churning up for the media and even Internet companies as they head up for the Beijing Olympics 2008. We had reported that China had imposed restrictions over the coverage of the biggest event this year (and that isn’t the only news China).

According to Reuters numerous talks between the Technology giants, Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, joined up by other Internet companies have come to an agreement on a voluntary code of conduct for their activities in China as well as other restrictive countries.

Letters had been sent to both Democratic and Republican Senators, Richard Durbin and Tom Coburn stating that the details for the codes are worked upon and will be released once done. The authorities at Google, Yahoo and Microsoft have been quite on this issue but the basic objective that has been stated for the code mentions:

Principles of freedom of expression and privacy” in countries where governments seek users’ private information or block access to certain websites.

From what it appears the latest code has been given a write up to ease out things for internet companies within these regions where governments have authority to ask for data of users over the web and the problem has been brought forward with the start of Beijing Olympics and the concern these companies have over there policies that can be thwarted in the concerned regions.
