Google Trends launches Trends for Websites

Sardar Mohkim Khan

google-trends Google Trends launches Trends for Websites Trends for Web Sites, has been launched by Google giving a major addition to Google Trends; it expands the Google Trends by allowing the user to search web site addresses unlike the previous method of searching through with keywords.

Unlike Google Trends, that shows traffic, search and geographic visits data, Trends for websites will show sites related to the domain name that is entered, along with that it will display searches in relation to the domain name and if you are signed in; also display an estimated traffic. Not just that but it will also plot line graphs by letting you enter up to five domain names at once.

The idea used here is that Google has grabbed its numbers by combining sources like search traffic, anonymous Google Analytics figures and third party marketing day giving it an extensive usability.

This brings Google into a direct competition with the already existing public traffic services namely; Alexa, Compete and Quantcast that have been termed in as in-accurate. Though the results form Trends for Websites are mere estimates as well but these can be improved if sites choose to share their Google Analytics data, giving a far more accurate output. And the rest of the data displayed, is bound to be accurate given Google’s enormous volume of data it has available for such purposes.

For example, the picture below shows Trends for Last.fm, it plots unique visitors on the graph and the number shown is an estimate.of the Search Volume index for the site. There is additional data available that shows regions. This is brought up from Google Trends for keywords, showing how popular the website is by searches in a particular region. The additional key new data here are; “also visited” and “also search for…” data. The “also visited” displays the sites that searchers also visited based on correlated search data Google has. The “also search for…” shows other searches the user has searched for that is related to this site. Google generally shows ten data points, that can be lesser at times too.

The product is available worldwide and supports English language currently and there are always bits and pieces that can be added to it, making it far more effective than it already is.
