Google topped the ‘Search Market’ in the U.S. again; Yahoo/MSN loses

Nielsen Online has released the ranking of search market in the U.S. for the month of July, 2008. Google, as expected, has topped the list with 60.2% of 8 billion (7,996,956) searches. The search engine giant’s shares have seen an increase of 16% as compared to July, last year. Google’s total number of searches for the month of July has reached over 4.8 million (4,812,974).

Nielsen-Online_LogoYahoo (1,393,723 searches), MSN/Windows Live Search (951,882 searches) and AOL Search (369,611 searches) have lost 11%, 10% and 9% respectively as compared to July, 2007. Also a huge decline has been observed in two search providers, namely My Web Search (-38%) and Dogpile.com Search (-33%), since last year.

AT&T WorldNet Search has improved tremendously with an increase of 210% as compared to July, 2007, but its overall search market share is 0.4 percent. Other notable search providers who have improved their growth since last year include Ask.com Search (13%), Comcast Search (22%) and NexTag Search (5%).
