Digg, the social news site, has been under discussion for its acquisition by the search engine giant, Google. A lot of rumors are going around regarding this deal. According to a report, the later is in final negotiations with the social news site for its acquisition for $200 million. The report further says that the two companies have been under discussion to make Digg part of the Google News group. Though the report by TechCrunch has proved to be just a grapevine.
Earlier in March, similar rumours were spreading out and Digg did confirmed that the talks were in full swing. However this time, the story is different. Generally a “no comment” is observed from the parties involved in acquisitions but this time the Digg CEO, broke the silence.
Jay Adelson, the Digg CEO has posted a blog denying the whole acquisition saga. His blog, under the heading of “Rumours and Speculations”, reads:
Normally our policy is to not comment about things like this, but this morning’s rumors about a bidding war involving Google and Microsoft have created such a stir we feel compelled to tell you all directly that they are completely inaccurate.
Furthermore he added:
Sorry to burst any drama theories, but they aren’t true. We remain focused on improving Digg and rolling out great features.
Some Digg users were getting shaky with the rumors while others appreciated it, but with Adelson’s post, it should be the end of story.
