Google’s Street View is facing a strict anti-privacy movement in Japan, as a group of Japanese journalists, professors and lawyers are demanding that the Search giant scraps its “Street View” service in Japan, since it is seriously violating the privacy of ordinary citizens.
The group has sent a written petition to Google’s Japanese subsidiary responsible for maintaining Street View service in Japan. The petition states that “Street View constitutes violent infringement on citizens’ privacy by photographing residential areas, including community roads, and publishing their images without the consent of communities and citizens."
Local authorities in Tokyo and Osaka have already asked the government to take some notice against the service. The Street View service was expanded to 12 major cities in Japan in August, but it seems that now it would have to seriously cut down.
