Google shuns FeedBurner’s Ad Network in favor of the miser Adsense

Bilal Hameed

image-thumb99 Google shuns FeedBurner’s Ad Network in favor of the miser Adsense Google is shunning the FeedBurner Ad Network (FAN) in favor of Google Adsense for Feeds. But even before they formally announced it, FAN publishers began to see a decrease in their monthly feed revenues to a paltry amount. These revenues previously brought in as much as $10 CPM. Search Engine Roundtable is suggesting that this was done on purpose in order to push the publishers into using Adsense for feeds. And now when they have achieved the low pay outs, they have come up with this announcement.

This is a quick note to confirm that FeedBurner’s former, independent ad network, FeedBurner Ad Network (aka "FAN"), is officially closed. No new applications for FAN publishers are being accepted and we expect the broad variety of options provided through AdSense (including the new AdSense for Feeds product, powered with FeedBurner feeds) will give publishers valuable new revenue-earning potential.

Matt S., FeedBurner

FeedBurner had already stopped accepting more publishers into the network since ages. The company is yet another example of Google buying a great service and than crippling it just for their stupid Adsense, which frankly speaking doesn’t bring in much to the publishers.

The news has not been taken positively around the blogosphere. Mashable is asking people to Forget Feedburner and roll their own RSS feed advertising. This is something that Allen Stern is now doing with some success. See him tabling his thoughts in the video below.
