Google released the list of top search keywords for 2008 in China today and surprisingly enough it only had one American name in the top ten; NBA. The entire list was crowded by Chinese sites hat covered almost all online media from file sharing to news. The list was topped by an online portal Sohu followed by Netease at number two. The online video sharing sites Youku and Tuduo were placed at number four and five. The results clearly show that American firms have failed to impact the Chinese web market as users continue to rely on their home-made web service. You can’t complain much over this as Google itself trails lead of Baidu the Chinese search engine that rules supreme with a 65% market share (despite all the controversies surrounding it).
