Google Maps has furthered its pact with Tele Atlas for a period of 5 years. The information was disclosed by Tele Atlas, a Netherlands based digital map provider.
The licensing agreement will give Google access to Tele Atlas maps and dynamic content in more than 200 countries around the globe, specifically in Europe and Africa. Under the agreement Google will be able to use the mapping data for its current and future mapping products across mobile, online and desktop environments. Current Google apps that use mapping data are Google Maps and Google Earth.
Tele Atlas will also get access to edits for its maps from Google’s community of users under the terms of the deal. So clearly Tele Atlas have structured the deal to gain from user generated content via Google services. This also shows that companies like Tele Atlas have begun to realize the importance and significance of user generated content.
The financial aspects of the deal were not disclosed.
