The search giant Google has expanded its online encyclopedia Knol in three international languages. These languages include French, German and Italian. Google’s VP of Engineering, Udi Manber, at the occasion said:
Our goal is to encourage people who know a particular subject to write an authoritative article about it.
Furthermore he said:
There are millions of people who possess useful knowledge that they would love to share, and there are billions of people who can benefit from it.
Knol was said to be the tough competitor of Wikipedia, but the service has been heavily criticized for giving spammers a way through Adsense. Some think that now when the service is available in three international languages, spammers will get a better way to access the top European audience.
