Google goes live with 3D Virtual World

Google has recently launched its new 3D service to make social web more creative and less static. Web world already allows us to play in a 2D world. Users can chit chat via text and can send videos and pictures to make it all more expressive and funny. But users were still limited to typical available chat rooms as they cannot make their own virtual rooms and characters to intermingle and chat with each other. Thus, Google go a head one step with Lively.com to blend 3D world into a web-ish look that can entertain users far more better then the usual 2D web trait. The service in its beta phase is officially a part of Google Labs.
Lively. com enables people to experience the real essence of 3D world by exploring new dimensions in a web era. It is true that actions speaks louder then words and the new service by Google will help users to be more expressive and interactive without typing or saying words.
Google’s Lively allows users to create their own virtual world. You can start from scratch or can copied and altered number of sample rooms. Virtual Rooms gives you a sense as if you are roaming in your own room. You can alter furniture, customize your avatars according to your personality and can chat through animated actions as GTalk itself is a chat engine. You can make your avatars perform various actions such as manipulating things and dancing. Users can also enhance their virtual environment by carving more creative arts with the help of Picasa (Google’s photo service) and YouTube.
At a time, 20 people can occupy a virtual room and chat with each other with the cartoon style bubbles text appearance.
Windows users can embed their own created 3D world into their web pages (such as blogs and social networks) by downloading and installing add-on. However, the current version is not supporting Mac and Linux devices.
Niniane Wang, Engineering Manager and the head of a project, wrote in her blog that the product is an outcome of her “20 % project?. University of Arizona State has closely worked on a project before its release. Her product can give a tough time to number of already existing companies with similar ideas such as Second Life and Vivaty.
Second Life is a San Francisco based company that offers much larger virtual world as
thousands of users can accommodate into it at a time.
Vivaty is another similar product that works as a Facebook and AOL Messenger app, where users can virtually create rooms and decorate it with furniture.
Google has genuinely step into the Lively world by making things live and more animated. But it has to improve a lot in order to gain good amount of publicity and fame.
