Google seems to be preparing to give Amazon a tough challenge in the E-Reader market by teaming with Sony. The deal would have Google giving away 500,000 free e-books to Sony eBook Store. These books have their copyrights expired and would give Google a major position in the Sony eBook store. In a press release Steve Haber, president of the Digital Reading Business Division at Sony Electronics stated:
We have focused our efforts on offering an open platform and making it easy to find as much content as possible – from our store or others – whether that content is purchased, borrowed or free. Working with Google, we can offer book lovers another avenue for free books while still providing a seamless experience from our store.
