Gears has recently launched its service for the Safari browser. Google Gears is an open source web browser plug-in that allows users to access the online data when they are offline. For instance, you can use this deftly plug-in to read all Google Reader shared items or Google Docs when you are running out of an Internet connectivity. The service is also planning to make Gmail messages and calendars offline available.
With an advent of plug-ins like Gears, there is always some limitations. And the mot missing thing with Gears was its support for only two common browsers i-e Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and Mozilla’s Firefox. Users of Apple’s Mac, that has highly occupied the Internet niche, have to compromise by changing their browser to Firefox, as it didn’t support the Safari- the default web browser installed on all Apple machines. But the recent news by Google OS reveals that Gears has filled this gap by launching its Beta for Safari.
If you want to install a plug-in for your Safari Browser than follow the instructions posted on Google Groups. It has got some system requirements for the installation process such as use Safari 3.1.1, Tiger 10.4.11 or Leopard 10.5.3 with Gears 0.4.16.0. Apart from this crap, it contains some interesting cautions that are quiet alarming. If you seldom take risks and loves your machine a lot than by reading these cautions, you will surely not proceed:
This is BETA, it is not an official release, it might break your browser.
Chances are it will break your browser. Please proceed with caution.
Please do not forward the download, since it’s still in beta, we would like to make sure we patch up any issues before we officially release it.
But if you are quiet adventurous and wants to explore something interesting than give it a try and do share your experience with us in our comments section after downloading it.
Google Gears support for Safari would be a boon to all Apple Users. The Internet giant has taken an intuitive step by making Gears available for Safari users as it is also a browser that runs on the iPhones that has been centre of attention by huge number of people. This step could help Gears to explore new heights of popularity. Its recent support for the YouTube to upload 1 GB of videos without installing any software and Wordpress extension to speed up the functionality are quiet appreciable.
