Google Gears has announced the official release of its service for the Safari on OS X. Gears is an open source web browser plug-in that allows users to access the online data when they are offline. The incorporation of gears on OS X platform will allow users to access all the Gear supported sites such as Zoho office, WordPress, YouTube Uploader, Google Docs offline and Google reader in Safari.
The gears for Safari was out for the beta test last month with an alarming caution. It was displaying a warning to wait for the official release as a beta download could break your browser. Mac users can now enjoy the service without any fear of system crash.
The minimum requirements for the installation of gears are Leopard 10.5.3 or Tiger 10.4.11. This allow users to use all the APIs added by Gears. Safari users can enjoy and work with all Gears’s versions such as 0.3 release that offers a functionality to create desktop shortcuts for websites or a 0.4 release that has added Geolocation and Blobs.
The availability of Gears for Safari will also help the service to grab the sizable user base of an ever growing Apple market. With so many plans in its pipeline, Gears is also trying to make Gmail messages and calendars available offline.
