Google executives are expected to face Italian prosecutors in line with failing to monitor a third party content which was posted on the Italian version of their site, back in 2006. The Italian prosecutors are getting ready to file a charge against 4 Google employees, who they think were responsible.
According to Stefano Hesse, the Google’s spokesperson, the search engine giant has been lending hand with the local authorities. Furthermore he said that after being told about the videos, the company did remove the content (video) within hours.
The video which was of 191 seconds, showed some youths taunting their classmates. Stefano added that the company is not obliged to monitor any third party content on its site but they certainly take down the offensive material.
The Italian magistrates, after 2 years of investigation, officially concluded their investigation this month and have presented their findings in a court in Milan.
This is not the first case Google has faced in the Europe. Prior to this, French network TF1 sued YouTube and after that Spanish Telecinco also sued the site for intellectual property infringement. Some privacy groups are also having issues with Google Maps’ ‘Street View’ in the UK.
Europe seems to be a hard ground for Google. The company has to be extra cautious in Europe and lets hope Google won’t face any charges like this in the future.
