After the successful online applications, Google is now looking for the next target i.e. making those online applications available offline. Two services i.e. Google Reader and Google Docs have already been integrated with the Gears. Kusiri’s Andrew Fox had a chance to preview the integration. The support is said to be available in approximately six weeks time.
Google unintentionally opened the option in Google Calendar in the last months which displayed the following message:
To view and edit the next 3 months of your Google Calendar when you’re not connected to the Internet, click OK.
Andrew also discovered that by next month, the search engine giant will be adding SyncML support for contacts of Gmail. SyncML is actually a criterion for synchronization of data and is supported by various companies. According to Andrew, it is:
related to the sync that they worked on with Apple for 3G iPhone
SyncML is most commonly thought of as a method to synchronize contact and calendar information between some type of handheld device and a computer (personal/network-based service), such as between a mobile phone and a personal computer.
This offline access of application will certainly bring Gmail to its full swing. Google has yet to have a word on these specific applications but the company’s spokesperson said:
We’re working on Gears-enabling a number of our products, but we don’t have a specific time line to announce.
