Phew! At last Google lets go of its traditional all-white appearance and puts some image for the winter. And it appears pretty nice, I wasn’t quite sure if this was actually the Gmail login page I was visiting and had to retype the URL, just in case it’s some bogus site popped up with a Gmail logo to fool me into entering my ID ( I know I sound pretty stupid saying all this, but that’s what I felt). This may not be a permanent one, as Google is known for putting up new logos based for various occasions. But there had been some steps to make Gmail more colorful with the availability of themes a couple of days back. Overall it appears much more pleasant to the eyes, I for one had grown pretty tired of the old page.

I haven’t seen it yet but it looks cool- just wanted to comment though that you were totally right to make sure you were at the right site, thats the opposite of stupid- you are the smart one that won’t get phished while everyone else does and wonders what the heck they did wrong lol.

Well I guess they must be testing it at different parts of the world, I still see the same page, just hit me a mail if you get to see something different. And thanks for the compliments there, one really cant trust the web for all the vicious webs it has.

I don’t know what everybody else sees on their login page for Gmail, but mine has what might be entitled, “A Smoggy Day in the Rockies.” I mean, sorry, it’s ugly as hell. I understand that the designer thinks placing a gray-brown-green screen over a mountain scape is a sophisticated use of color, but he/she forgot to think of CONTEXT. The gray-brown-green in that context is not sophisticated; it’s what’s known to artists as MUD, and it reads as dirty smog filling the valley between mountains. It doesn’t work. Anyway, I hope they change it, or at least make it possible for us to change it ourselves.

Is it similar to the one in the snapshot? Well L’eau, the only things that looks misplaced here is the login dialog box. Apart from that there isn’t anything ‘ugly’ about it. In case they remove the ‘mud’ from that image, users will complain of being unable to read the text. Anyways it’s a matter of opinion and we hope Gmail team rolls out a feature for its users to custom select the themes, backgrounds, etc.
Best Regards,

Well, Sardar, after making a living for many years as a graphic designer with a B.A. in Fine Art, I can tell you, it’s ugly. They could have used a host of other colors to make the text legible, without choosing one that looks like smog in the valley between mountains, since the color becomes part of the illustration, the scene. It wouldn’t have to be a “pretty” color, but just not the one they chose. They should try again.

Actually, my login page is all white with a bit of grey up the top and down the bottom. The left text is still the same…and the login box is like the pictured one – pure ugly. I just loved the old one. Gmail can you please put in back my old login page?
