It seems like quite a time when I last mentioned something about Android, I guess the Holiday season left us too much occupied with Apple and the jailbreak stories. Anyways coming to the current stir on the latest release of Android; Gingerbread.
Developers at the XDA developers forum have been hard on porting Gingerbread to other Android smartphones. Developers have been busy with getting the Gingerbread to work on Google Nexus One, HTC HD2 and the Samsung Galaxy S. Today there was a successful porting of the OS to the Droid Eris and testing so far states it is quite stable.
Punk.Kaos, the developer who has been on it for long finds the current version to be stable enough and is as fast as Android Froyo on the Droid Eris. The following features are fully functional so far:
- Working OpenGL
- Sensors working(Ambient, rotation, etc)
- In-call microphone
- Notification Lights
There are of course bugs in the current ROM and Kaos is working on ridding the release of these. Hopefully we will be hearing of the final release running smooth on you Droid Eris. You can head over to the thread for more on this.
