Getty Images takes off where Flickr Stock was supposed to

Flickr Stock, a project that was supposed to be part of Flickr, was thought of as a marketplace where users could buy and sell photographs hosted on the service. Though Flickr abandoned the idea in early 2008 and partnered with Getty Images instead. Sarah Cooper, an ex-employee working on the project states:

The concept of Flickr Stock was to create an online marketplace where existing Flickr users could offer photos for sale as well as purchase photos taken by others.

Getty Images has released a few invites as part of the first round where Flickr members can explore the features.
