Getty Images adds monetary value to a mighty collection of Flickr photos

flickr_getty logo Yahoo’s Flickr collaborated with Getty images to let users earn monetary revenue out of their photos. Getty Images, being one of the world’s largest distributor of pictures and videos will surely give Flickr images a wider exposure to outside world. The deal will serve as a concrete platform  for all exhilarated photographers, who have got a creative collection of their artistic work.

All Flickr members who are interested in featuring their work in Flickr-Getty Gallery have to wait for an email only, Getty Images will directly contact them via email. While new users can also display their creative work on iStockphoto (a service by Getty Images) and can enter into a long list of emulous photographers.

Flickr members have to sign a Getty Images contract that will serve as an authentication proof about image’s originality and value. The contract also outlines rates of different images evaluated by size and commercial usage.

Detailed terms of agreement between two companies are not disclosed yet. However, Jonathan Klein, co-founder and chief executive of the company said that the deal will benefit millions of Flickr photographers with the passage of time.

Klein considers Flickr’s addition into a Getty Image art gallery as an important aspect as it will be a boon to all professional photographers.

“We believe that Flickr will be an important addition to the mix that we have. Because the imagery is not shot for commercial services, there is more authenticity, Advertisers are looking for authenticity.�

While Kakul Srivastava, general manager of Flickr considers the interest of Getty images in a Flickr world as an evidence of their refined quality images.

“It is a real testament to the quality of the photography on Flickr,�

The deal seems to be mutually beneficial for both companies, as Flickr will be able to take good advantage out of its thousands of images that are uploaded every minute while Getty Images will be able to attract huge number of Flickr user base.
