Gmail Backup provides you a way to get a copy of all of your email account in Gmail. The service uses the built-in IMAP capability of Gmail to save and restore complete archives of the Gmail email account. The service is available for Windows, Mac and Linux. The windows version is based on graphical interface and saves all the emails along with attachments in the EML format of Microsoft. On the other hand the Linux version is based on command line. The program is free for download and is available for all three versions.

Funny, I just went from outlook to gMail using the same method (iMap) to backup online. I’d hope gMail would have a GREAT backup service that I’d not have to rely on a local backup. AND… they claim you never need to delete another message. Well, I moved 10 years of email to gMail… and am at “20%” of storage… let’s see if that % goes down as I continue “not to delete anymore email”… not that I ever did.
