Pirate Partei LogoPirate Party (Piraten Partei), which is popular due to its fight against the constantly increasing surveillance of authorities on the general public, saw its official spokesperson’s house raided by the German authorities. The move came after the ‘Piraten Partei’ published a classified document which was sent by an anonymously.

The document portrayed how much deep the German government is keeping an eye on the public. It contained material which showed that the authorities have even installed trojans on the user computers. By seeing the stuff leaked out, the German authorities were very much disturbed and the current raid on the official’s house is an example of that.

According to some legal experts, the publication of such stuff might be an illegal act. Other than the home search of Pirate Party’s spokesperson, another server of the party member was detained. However the chances are low that the authorities will get any clue and unveil the actual person behind the leak as the server was completely encrypted.

Responding on the issue, the Chairman of Bavarian Pirate Party (Piraten Partei), Andreas Popp said:

A brave person leaks documents to the Pirate Party, to inform the public about a procedure of the Bavarian Government, which is highly likely to violate the constitution. Now this persons is hunted like a criminal. Private rooms are raided, servers get seized.

The trojan which installed was able to tap Skype calls and capture traffic to encrypted websites. What German officials are doing is not something new, many governments around the world are doing this. The only thing different is the way they do it and also their documents are rarely leaked. The German authorities will continue their surveillance on public, the only thing they can do is prevent the document leakage.
