Garmin, the market leader in GPS navigation devices, has announced that they would be launching their very own Android Phone in the 2nd half of 2009. The news is remarkable in a sense because Garmin’s AndNav2 is currently the only GPS application available on the Android Market. With Garmin’s direct foray into the Android domain, we could expect better GPS integration with Android and plenty interesting apps that would use GPS technologies in useful ways. Garmin has contacted ASUS to manufacture the device, according to Tony An, Garmin’s Asia Pacific Marketing Director:
Garmin will launch Nuvifone, its first GPS-enabled handset, in the Taiwan market in the second quarter of 2009, An noted. Garmin also plans to launch self-developed Android handsets in the second half of 2009, with production to be outsourced
