image thumb30 Gannett to buy ShopLocal entirely Local Onliner is reporting that Gannett is acquiring the remaining stocks in ShopLocal from partners Tribune and McClatchy. ShopLocal is a leading provider of multi-channel shopping services.

ShopLocal’s mission is "to build communities around localized shopping". Some of the services that ShopLocal offered are Smart Media, Smart Delivery, Smart Circular, and Smart Catalog. Smart Media comprise of highly interactive banner ads that are served online in-front of shoppers from a certain locality. The Smart Delivery system enables businesses to spread their message using a variety of tools such as email, sms, feeds etc. Smart Circular is an online equivalent of print promotions. Smart Catalog enables business to create interactive business catalogs, that allows users to see related items, view several images of the product and shop from right there and then.

The Chicago based company was valued at $85 million in 2006.
