Gaming Startup ‘8D World’ concluded first round of funding

8D World Logo 8D World, a gaming startup, has concluded a deal in Series A of funding from Spark Capital. According to Alex Finkelstein, a principal at Spark Capital, the startup has raised an amount of over $1 million in the first round of funding.

The startup which is currently operating in its stealth mode, is a multiplayer online game just like RuneScape. It looks more like a fantasy game. Fantasy gaming genre is one of the most popular gaming genres. The popularity can be seen from Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft which has around 10 million subscribers.

The company has Rick Goodman as its Executive Vice President and Chief Product Officer. He co-founded Ensemble Studios with Bruce Shelly, Brian Sullivan and his brother Tony. The squad created the mega hit game “Age of Empires�, a real time strategy game franchise, for Microsoft. Millions of copies of the game were sold.

In 1998, Rick took another way and started his own game studio by the name of Stainless Steel Studios which produced another hit game “Earth Empire�. The game was considered to be the rival of Age of Empires. The company closed in late 2005 due to issues with the publisher back then, Midway Games.

The President and Chief Executive Officer of the company is Alex Wang who is also the founder of 8D World. He is the cofounder of Emptoris. The company has offices in Boston and China. They have plans to launch their services in Asia. Other details of the company are yet to be released.
