Oakland, California based gaming startup, Kirkland North, has raised an amount of $225,000 in the Series A of funding. The current round of funding was led by Harrison Metal Capital. The startup is developing a game called PlayTurf.
The game functions similar to the board game and contains maps of local communities distributed into different areas which players try to conquer. All the moves are made through online interface but as it is likely that users will team up with their neighbours, they can make the strategy offline.
Furthermore you are allowed to customize the game to other places such as your college/university campus or your office. The game of Turf was first played at Yale University in March last year and got popularity as 62% of the undergraduates played it.
The company has a tough competitor i.e. GoCrossCampus. With this round of funding, the competition between the two will probably get tough.
