It is learned that social network Gaia Online has laid off 13% of its staff, amongst claims that it has bagged record earnings. The company laid off 36 of its employees in an effort to cut back on costs, this is confirmed in Gaia’s blog.
Craig Sherman, chief executive of Gaia Online states:
So far, the deepening recession has not slowed sales of virtual goods, which executives attribute to people spending more time at home. Gaia Online, a youth world with 7 million monthly visitors, sells more than $1 million a month of virtual goods and expects a record month in December.
