Gaia Online is the leading online hangout on the web founded in 2003; it has over 5 million visitors who flock it every month; socializing and entertaining themselves with games and movies in Gaia cinemas, making it the most active online community. The site is primarily focused at the teen audience; where they can create their own space and express their own unique style.
According to Joseph Wiesenthal Gaia online has presently raised $11 million in its third round of funding led by Institutional Venture Partners. The total amount has now raised to around $32 million that doesn’t include the amount from Sony; which remains undisclosed.
The site was originally founded by comic book enthusiasts and was initially started as an anime link-list before it trotted its way to social gaming. The users are at liberty to create custom avatars and their virtual home in any way they like. The users have their creativity alone that binds what they can do here. According to reports up late the site is said to climb from 8.2 million users in 2007 to over 20 million by 2011.
