Flock Logo

Flock, a social web browser released 3 years ago, has generated a lot of  hype since its release. It has succeeded in capturing alot of users. This has played a vital role in raising the fourth round of funding worth $15 million.

The lead investor of this round was Fidelity Ventures. Previous investors Bessemer Venture Partners, Catamount Ventures and Shasta Ventures also participated in the round.

The utilization of the current funding will be in the areas of research, development and marketing. They will specifically focus on global expansion and have also set a target to acquire 230 million users of the social networks world wide.

The only thing which differs this next generation web browser from Firefox and Internet Explorer is its built-in functionality for diverse social networks on internet.

Flock Browser

According to VentureBeat, Flock has increased its audience by more than 250% and has risen its revenue by more than 400%.

Flock which has won a Webby Award for social networking, is using Yahoo‘s search technology according to a deal(just like Mozilla‘s Firefox deal with Google) and is also generating revenue from it.

Currently Flock is beta testing version 1.2, which includes integration with Digg. This will certainly please the die hard Diggers.

Flock is not the best web browser in the industry but is certainly making its mark by competing with giants like Internet Explorer and Mozilla. It has managed to do so by crafting the social networking niche in the browser market for itself. The browser has shown improvement with the passage of time. This deal is the result of Flock’s steady progression. Lets see how they handle the investment in the coming days.
