The photo displayed above is the 3 billionth photo that is uploaded to Flickr, which made the 2 billion mark roughly an year ago. Although its a big achievement, it pales in comparison to Facebook, which now has more than 10 billion photos hosted on its servers. Nevertheless, Adam Ostrow thinks of Flickr to be one of the smartest acquisitions made by Yahoo:
While Flickr might not be the largest photo sharing site in the world, it has proven to be one of the smartest acquisitions made during the Web 2.0 era. Yahoo scooped up the site for a mere $35 million in early 2005, long before massive deals that saw YouTube sell for $1.6 billion to Google and Facebook receive a $15 billion valuation from Microsoft.
