Firefox’s screenshots extension: FireShot

FireShot options

There are a lot of tools available for capturing screenshots like ScrnShots or SnapCasa, but FireShot is something totally different. It is a Firefox plugin that offers a number of editing tools that let users modify the captured screen shots and add text and graphical annotations. The tool is very helpful for web designers, testers and content viewers.

The captured image can be saved on the disk, copied to clipboard, emailed or opened in a new editor. File formats which are supported contains .PNG, .GIF, .JPEG, .BMP, etc. An image web server for hosting is also offered. The screenshot captured can either be of the current visible locale of the web page or the complete web page itself. You can also add another snap on the current screenshot. The source code of the plugin is based on Screenshot Studio.

FireShot Logo As the application is free, it is applicable anywhere. You can use it anywhere and anyway you want. Right now the plugin is utilized by some 110,000 users everyday. If you wana switch to the “Pro version, you can easily do it with just a click and you don’t have to download any other version (or upgraded version).

The plugin contains the following features:

  • Capturing entire web page (Captures the complete web page and exhibits it in an editor)

  • Capturing visible area (Captures the area which appears on the window)

  • Capturing a region (An editor appears ahead of capturing an image with a crop tool that can be utilized to select a specific area)

Tools that are available with the plugin includes:

  • Area selection tool (Provides a rectangular and ellipse shaped tool to select an area)

  • Crop tool (Selects specific area and cuts everything outside)

  • Fill tool (Fills selected area with a specified colour)

  • Gaussian blur tool (Blurs the image)

  • Grayscale tool (Converts selected area to grayscale)

  • Color Inversion tool (Inverts color in the selected area)

  • Glowing edges tool (Makes the edges of the selected area glowing)

  • Interlace tool (Interlaces selection)

Some vector tools are also available which includes:

  • Text and Shape tool (Highlights the specific area using different shapes and also annotate it)

  • Text and Freeform Drawing tool (Lets you create freeform drawings and add text message)

  • Text and Line tool (Lets you create pointer along with a text message)

  • Text tool (Allows you to add annotation in a text box)

When you are in the editing mode, you can’t access the page which you’re browsing and can’t access any other tab on that specific window. Other than this issue, the service is cool. Though they can further enhance it by adding more picture formats and editing options.
