Firefox is about making web more open; CEO Lily

image-thumb32 Firefox is about making web more open; CEO LilyWhile many a services plan at dominating the Websphere and vanish almost entirely without much flare, there are others that remain humble despite biting one fifth of what the giant shared. The failures are quite a lot, Cuil and Google’s Lively to name a few, but one platform maintains its nag of growing with time; Mozilla’s Firefox is what we talk of.

In an interview Lily gave to LinuxInsider; he highlighted the various aspects that have turned Firefox into a success and one major aspect has been their day to day goals rather than dreaming big and then disappearing. There has been a massive boost in the number of users since January, the month Lily took over as Mozilla’s CEO and with more than 20% domination of the Browser market.

Speaking about what makes Firefox a success? Lily responded by saying that being Open Sourced is the key to the success it has achieved with time. Almost 40% of the entire code for Firefox was written by developers outside Mozilla. The idea was plain, to make Web a more open place and to take away the monopoly from Microsoft that had dominated almost 96% of the market a short time back.

When talked about Mozilla making head ways into the mobile sector; Lily  pointed at bringing Firefox to the mobile devices that indirectly points at making the market more open.

I place Firefox much higher than the Internet Explorer, but the growing trend of open sourced browser and advent of Google Chrome can very well make competition tough for Firefox sometime soon. But Lily isn’t really much worried as long as Firefox keeps rolling out better and faster versions of the browser. Let’s just hope Firefox keeps amassing a much wider user base and remains a force multiplier as Lily talks of it.
