FCC’s Chair Kevin Martin is not supporting Motion Picture Association of America in its selective blocking of video outputs. MPAA had filed for a request (on behalf of Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox, Universal City Studios, Walt Disney Studios, and Warner Brothers) with the FCC to acquire permission to work with cable and satellite video providers to curb pre-DVD releases of movies. Martin told reporters at a press conference on Tuesday:
I’m not supportive of moving forward with this MPAA proposal at this time.
If another Commission (wants to deal with the question) they will be able to, obviously, but I’m not supportive of it.
