FBI – Federal Facebook Bureau of Investigation. You got me right, this is exactly what Facebook will have officially as the social network continues to thrive, and that too big time. While it grows there is obviously a need to monitor the social activity online and intelligence agencies will try their best to have their eyes across suspicious activities on the social network.
The United States has shown interest in having surveillance over the numerous social networks like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc. The idea is to keep an eye on the possible suspects prying on these networks and monitor their activity. Along with that the agents will also have access to the bulk of information online, which may include their personal information, contact, network of friends [a.k.a accomplices?] and what not. The move might sound good in some animated movie, but hello what was the point of publicly throwing the news out?
Of course the idea of monitoring the Web dates back to times when I barely knew what social networks are but the move is stupid and to be more precise, scary. I mean we all have so much of our information on these networks and we continue to share more personal stuff time and again. But then again I would advise that you do not take this all too seriously, trust me I heard a rumor some back that said our pictures from albums are hijacked and use to create false terrorists by the same agencies.
While the truth is there, there is growing concern on monitoring the networks more strictly. Just be aware if you are suspicious of a new friend request, just in case the person turns out to be an FBI agent.
