According to federal prosecutors, 49 year old woman from Missouri, Lori Drew, made a fake identity to humiliate Megan Meier, a teenager who afterwards committed suicide. Drew posed as Josh Evans, a teenage boy on social networking site MySpace and communicated with Meier. The deceased and Drew’s daughter were once friends but they fell apart. There are four charges on Drew, each of which carry a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison.
According to Thomas O’Brien, the U.S. attorney:
Her purpose was to tease Megan Meier, to tease her, to humiliate her and to hurt her.
One of her plans was to print out the conversations and take it to Megan’s school and let people make fun of this depressed 13-year-old girl.
