Facebook, which is one of the world’s most popular social networking sites, is about to set their international head quarters in Dublin, Ireland. The Irish capital already has the offices of internet companies such as Google, Amazon, eBay and Yahoo. The announcement was made yesterday by Mary Coughlan, the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
According to the social network, the Irish capital will be the hub of worldwide operations and will be providing technical, sales and operations support to users through out Europe, the Middle East and Africa. There is still no certainty about the number of jobs going to be created with this deal.
According to IDA Ireland spokesman the recruitment process has already started. On the deal, Facebook’s chief of online operations, Don Faul said:
We looked at a number of different locations and ultimately decided that Dublin was the best pick for a couple of different reasons.
One is that it has got a really strong, multi-lingual talent pool which will really help us grow and scale and ultimately get closer to our users, advertisers and developers in the region. In addition, the Irish Government has a long track record of being a great partner for global companies as they scale their international operations.
Faul also didn’t tell the number of positions going to be created with this new deal, all he said was that the company “would be starting small”. Facebook currently has around 100 million people signed up and the number is growing with almost 250,000 users joining in everyday.
The social networking site is also getting popularity in Ireland. According to a report from the Irish Computer Society the number of Irish users have almost doubled the last year. Last October the number of users were 131,600 which now is around 308,000.

They should have about 109 million users now…
