With plenty of exec seats lying empty or being filled up with new comers, Mark Zuckerberg looks forward for someone who is reliable and help him avoid taking steps that may lead to an unwanted decline in Facebook’s reputation.![]()
Just when things seemed to be a bit heading towards the anxiety zone, Andreessen, founder of Netscape, Opsware and Ning as well as the former CTO of AOL decides to add more feathers in his cap by joining Facebook’s board of directors. Though the announcement is yet to be made officially, there have been enough rumors since the last month to make it sound less of a rumor and more real.
Zuckerberg who considers Andreessen to be his mentor whom he often looks up for advice might just not find it fit enough as he is already working full time at Ning. The chances are that he would retain his position of the Chairman at Ning while grappling this opportunity as well. Zuckerberg has placed Andreessen in one of the two stock positions that are in his own charge. One of them had been taken up by the then president of Facebook, Sean Parker who hung his boots back in 2005.
The present growth in competition, where MySpace and Google are doing everything to grip control of the social whereabouts, Facebook can utilize the expertise of Andreessen for the good of it. Well perhaps with all the feathers in his cap, he can at least shade them from competitors’ heat.
