Wow, this is getting quite an air as Facebook continues to gain ever more popularity to get more closer to Google. We reported that Facebook was the most visited site during Christmas and today news broke out of it being the most visited site on New Year. This takes the total of such top visits to three in just under a fortnight. A great end to the year and an equally great way to begin the year with.
Although those stats are for the US only, but one can quite easily get an idea how rapidly is the site actually expanding. From where I see it, the social network would most definitely become the most visited site in the US before this year ends. At this point, comparing Facebook with its immediate competitors like MySpace, Orkut, etc sounds quite useless and it is time its competitors try and forget fighting with Facebook.
So what exactly keeps it growing?
The reason is obvious: the social network offers quite a lot within its platform to keep users occupied and engaged for hours. Everyday millions of images are uploaded, countless videos shared and status messages updated, the count of which is innumerable. Plus the social network isn’t stopping here, it is trying to strengthen its search, have its own virtual credit system, all this only to keep everything centered within the network. Then there is Facebook Connect, which as of last reports had 60 Million users a month and capturing almost all major websites out there.
Before I end, another important thing to note is that the platform has become the center of attention for the countless businesses that effectively utilize its userbase for promotions, etc. Oh, not just that but we have people spending $2 Million for their personal campaigns too.
