Facebook has officially announced to launch an Inbox search by this month. The tool will allow its users to search for any of their inbox’s message by keying in a sender’s name or a keyword related to that text. It would be really useful for Facebook readers as it saves the hectic process of going through hundred of pages to search for any particular message. Imagine an irritating time consuming search when you really need an urgent review of your friend’s text of his new mobile number. It will surely get on to your nerves when you have to go through bundles of pages to view only single line text (duhh!!).
Facebook had really taken a long time to develop an inbox search that has been
requested by a lot of its users. According to Prashant, Facebook Engineer, they were looking for an appropriate and scalable solution that would facilitate everyone and that is a main reason behind this great delay.
We built an in-house system to handle indexing all of this information for Inbox search. Once we developed this system, we began testing it for some users to make sure it was stable and ready to go.
The service has already been started to a few networks this week and it is expected to be available for every user by the end of this month. Though, Facebook still needs some improvements to serve as a standard email platform but Inbox Search was one of the major requirement of Facebook’s user. I for one am also waiting anxiously for this feature to roll out.
