Does anyone of you remember Facebook releasing the Facebook Lite version half a year back? Well I bet not many do and I was going nuts writing it for my country’s leading News site: Dawn News [the article: Go Lite to Go Fast]. Little did I know that I would barely access it and it would have the powered pulled out by Facebook itself.
I am clueless why this had to happen given that many even called it a Twitter Killer or Facebook’s cross with FriendFeed. The idea was pretty solid but think of maintenance of both the full version and the Lite, the bulk of data that Facebook deals with on a minute to minute basis, taking care of both versions was an impossible task. And while the Lite version did simplify things for those with dead slow connections, it served no other purpose. To be honest, I am not against the move by Facebook.
The developer who was the core person behind the Lite version himself has moved over and decided to concentrate on projects that can prove more fruitful to the platform. Well things got to go when they got to go and Facebook Lite will be remembered as a Light Version of Facebook that was a Twitter Killer that Killed itself.

For people still wanting a slimmer, faster Facebook, theres another option, a browser addon called Facebook Purity aka Fluff Busting Purity. It cleans up your fb homepage from all the junk messages such as application spam and x became fan of y, x joined group y etc, its very customisable as to what messages are displayed and which are shown, it even has a custom text filter that lets you hide specific words or phrases, the script was recently given the thumbs up in a review by the washington post.
you can get it here: http://www.fbpurity.com

Thanks Jacob, I will be checking the link out and then post about the service if it is suitable enough. Thanks though for your comment, keep us updated on other Facebook related stuff.
