Facebook leaves Downtown, off to 1601

Sardar Mohkim Khan

Facebook Facebook that had so far had its headquarters in downtown Palo Alto has finally decided to move places and shift itself to 1601 California Avenue. The new site is spread over a spacious 152,000 square foot site and will be in use by 2009. Does that mean the old office is for a sale off? There has been no news about anything of the sort reported by Arden Pennell.

HP had previously occupied the same place and is set out for an eventual change over to housing scheme as had been agreed upon between the Stanford University and the city. Downtown that had once been a hive for Facebookers roaming randomly will definitely miss them as Debbie Frost stated:

We have loved our time in downtown Palo Alto and consider it part of the DNA here at Facebook. Many of our employees live in the area and will continue to be a part of the downtown community,

Facebook has been up with letting their employees sell out their stock a pennies worth compared to their valuation of $15 billion after Microsoft had id in with $240 million for a mere 1.6 % of what the total is. Palo Alto had been Facebook’s big hit and employees feel a lot of attachment to the place. Debbie added:

Palo Alto has been a great home for many start-ups and we are confident that with our move, other companies will occupy and thrive in the vacated spaces.

The shifting shouldn’t come up as a drawback as it would help the employees come closer at one place something that has been a preference for the employees, but if that is so why would people at Facebook want to quit and go off for ‘better’ oppurtunity.
