We have been hearing news about Microsoft keen at getting its hands on Facebook; this might be in the clouds but it has injected Live Search into the Social Network. The update is currently for the U.S users alone and the feature would enable Facebook users to search content directly from Facebook.
This would enable users to get additional information on various things, be it some piece of news or location of a place where the event is to take place.
Users are provided the ability to limit their search to Facebook or expand it across the web. The search results are displayed along with ads delivered by adCenter and relevant in relation to your profile or to what what you have searched for, the ranking system is perhaps custom made to suit Facebook’s design and as said the relevancy is dependant upon the information Facebook has about you and your friends.
Being a profitable tool as chances of users buying items they search for or clicking on ads are high. Plus the current venture is part of what Facebook had been tipping in to its users; about including Live Search and plans of having its own search engine. To Facebook, it’s about expanding business and to Microsoft it can be a breather given its search business losing out to Google.
With Facebook still generating a fraction of Google’s 10 billion searches; catching up is still light years away in the search business for Facebook and Microsoft.
